Christmas!

No Snow in Western Washington for Christmas...that means kite flying and scooter riding for us!

The boys got Rockboard scooters and Ian took off on it almost instantly. We as scooting around the house so we thought we better get outside. Owen still needs more practice.

Both big boys also got kites. Owen currently loves T-Rex dinosaurs so he got the T-Rex kite. Ian got a pink flamingo but it wasn't designed very well and as Rob put it...probably needs a hurricane to really fly it. He tried though!

Is that "red-neck" if you use a fishing pole to fly a kite? Robert's idea...but hey, it worked great!

Getting cold...but still no snow.

Kellan napped in the car while the big boys played. But here is a picture of him enjoying Christmas too!

CHRISTMAS COUNTDOWN!

The family is busy with Christmas preparations. Ian, Owen and Kellan are a constant source of energy and mess! Thankfully I took getting my birthday gift on myself this year and I have someone coming to clean our house so I can enjoy the holidays even more. Yay! And easy on Robert too.

Ian learned how to do a front flip in gymnastics this week. I wish I had found the gymnastics outlet earlier. Both him and Owen really like it and with all the climbing and jumping around they do at the house already, I am sure they will catch on quickly. Kellans most recent accomplishment...climbing stairs. And boy is he proud of it. Now I am really on the watch. Looks like he is going to be just like his brothers. 3 boys...oh boy!

I just finished reading a really good book I would like to share. It is called "The Child Whisperer." I love how it teaches us to honor our children's (and our own) innate gifts and energy. A great gift for parents!

Family Photos November 2012

We had family photos taken by the talented and amazing Tonic Design Studios in Mount Vernon. They have a gift of capturing the essence of our family. The silly, soft, goofy, crazy...all of it. This is "us".

 The family shot.
Notice Owen's mismatched shoes? He always wears two different shoes these days.

Love my boys!

Daddy's boys...

Momma's boys...

My blue eyed baby boy. Makes my heart sing.

 I love the kids expressions.

Our first "child", Bailey. We really wanted to include her in the photo shoot as she is now 13 1/2 years old and we don't know how much longer we will have with her on this earth...

Time4learning.com Review

A great resource for a busy mom!

We have been using Time4learning.com for the past 30 days with Ian and Owen. I have to say, I was a little skeptical that I would REALLY like it when we began but I LOVED it!

I loved the structure that the program used and the topics that were taught were inline with grade level requirements. I really like that the language arts/reading and the math can be taken at different grade levels. Ian is a beginner reader but catches math and science concepts quickly. I love that, unlike public school, this program allows the child to do lessons at their level. The added bonus is that many individual topics can be "tested out of" essentially. So if your child has mastered time, money and patterns, they can simply take the test and then not have to repeat lessons. This is a great feature for my son who easily gets "bored" with repetitive tasks. That then leaves more time to focus on topics they have not yet covered like weight, geometry, etc.

A few improvements that I would like to see in the program:

1) A pause button! If the child is in the middle of a lesson and has to go to the potty they cannot pause the lesson. It does go in "pages" so they don't miss the WHOLE lesson, just what they are doing on that page. And if that is a longer lesson it means that sometimes we need to start from the beginning. This does not make my "non-repetitive" son very happy.

2) A link from the parents admin to the childs lesson page. If the child doesn't complete a lesson, you can click on the lesson and see what it was but a direct link to have the child complete it would be great. It isn't extremely difficult to go to their account and find the lesson but for a busy mom with baby in arms, toddler running wild at her feet, a one click option would be great. :)

We have been trying this program out for 30 days and we will continue. It is a great resource and easily used for a basic curriculum for homeschooling. It covers math, language arts, science and social studies for 1st/2nd grade. Owen (3) also liked to do his school work and learned about colors, rhymes, letters, numbers, feelings, weather, etc. He also learned some science by looking over his brothers shoulder.

For 2 busy boys, this program worked. Ian preferred it over his workbooks and the graphics were fun for both.

Give it a try!

Time4Learning...

I've been invited to try Time4Learning for one month in exchange for a candid review. My opinion will be entirely my own, so be sure to come back and read about my experience. Time4Learning can be used as a homeschool curriculum, for afterschool enrichment and for summer skill sharpening. Find out how to write your own curriculum review for Time4Learning.
